Xiaomi unveils 300 W HyperCharge Technology

Xiaomi recently showcased its next-generation charging technology. Although Xiaomi offers 120 W HyperCharge technology in its smartphones, it demonstrated 210 W fast charging in the Redmi Note 12 Pro Discovery Edition. However, Realme have gone further with 240 W fast charging in the GT 3 and GT Neo5, and the former is set to launch during MWC 2023.

To keep up with its rivals, Xiaomi has presented a faster charging solution in a Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus prototype, featuring improved 'HyperCharge.' Xiaomi advertises its new charging technology as being capable of reaching 300 W, but it never actually reaches that figure, peaking at just over 290 W a few times and maintaining over 280 W until the smartphone reaches approximately 64% charge. After that, the charging speed quickly drops to a final charging of 65 W.

Despite this, the resulting charging curve can fully recharge a 4,100 mAh battery in just five minutes, which is a new record. Xiaomi claims that the 300 W power supply used is as compact as the one used in its 210 W HyperCharge demo, despite the 43% power increase. However, it is unknown when Xiaomi will offer this new HyperCharge solution in a consumer device. Based on the Redmi Note 12 Pro Discovery Edition, it seems likely that 300 W HyperCharge will initially be exclusive to China.
